I put together some crate drawings for somebody that's planning to put his boat in a container, and I'll post them here in case they help someone else. This is for a fully enclosed crate, as opposed to just a cradle like you might use if you were renting the whole container.

That's just wicked cool. I hope that they have some long ass forks on the lift truck that puts it into and pulls it out of the container.

Yeah, ramps and sliding it in was how I saw it happening. I'm not sure of the equipment available, so I went with a solution that raw manpower could handle.

Usually you have nothing but a container on the ground if you are picking up and dropping off at a shipping yard. I hope they had a few buddies along for the fun. No real way to get out if you were on the back side unless you put a ladder on the back side of the crate to get up and climb over. Pulling out seems like the harder task actually. Like that iPhone game "Boxed In" where you can only push the boxes.

How about a rolling framework that you can pre-load the boat(s) onto, then roll into the container?

Sorry jerome, I was thinking if you had the whole container. But still, what about drop-down wheels on the back of the box, regular wheels on the front. The drop down wheels I'm thinking of actually use a lever system to lift the item they carry before locking in place. Or maybe just a swivel wheel on a hinged block; Lever up the back of the box and flip them under. You're only talking about maybe at the most 1500 lbs. roll on/roll off!
