Actually, putting in a few cross-ties between your upper and lower stringers would be pretty simple. You could reach in from the access plates if you have them, and from in front of frame 169. Although crawling back in under the deck sucks (I had one of my son's crawl in there to attache the washers and nuts for the deck fittings).

Naw, okoume's fine, as long as it's well supported with stringers. Unless yer looking for some extra weight, down low and all...

I've been working on Mist's interior, a little at a time. The bow tack, side shroud chainplates, bowsprit sleeve, and jib track backing-plates are installed. I hope to finish coating the interior and install the foredeck soon.

The boat is in the driveway and is read to go for a splash tomorrow. I didn't get to a few of my punch-list items (like the motor mount, the keel crane, etc.) but those can wait until I get back from vacation.

Looks really good, Phil. Another finished boat to make me jealous, grrr.

I sprayed the third coat on the topsides (hull side panels) this morning, and my gun let me down- it has a restriction that just lets a mist of paint out, so it's really hard to get a full wet coat, so orange peelville. It doesn't look bad, just not nearly as good as it should- I'd have been better off rolling it on, sigh. Gonna leave it for now though, flip the boat and get the deck sorted. I can redo stuff this winter if I'm still not happy. GOTTA get wet this year!

I settled for a bunch of imperfections just in order to get the thing ready in time for the trip. Next spring I'm going to give the boat a light sanding and one more coat of paint and I have a bunch of interior clean-up to do.

So the partial verdict is that it floats with no leaks. I have some small adjustments to the rudder cassette to make before I go sailing later today. I'll post pictures when I can.

...that's actually the way big shops get those 'perfect' paintjobs,
,,they blast a heavy basecoat,,not worrying too much about texture,sags,and flies,,
........and everything else a long open 'wettime' brings
,,then a light wetsand with 220/320grit,with a light spray of clearcoat for that deep-gloss-perfection ;)

Getting there slowly. the cross pieces of wood on the bulkheads are to keep the bulkheads straight when placed into the hull.

Me too. I had a piece of 2x1 clamped across the deck level of F124 for rigidity while installing frames stern to fore wise.
And eventually this 2x1 became a permanent brace to the aft side of F124, resisting the keel-box's tendency to warp F124, and providing more gluing surface for the cockpit deck.

I am installing cockpit panels in 3 pieces: i) A pair of small rectangles both side of keel-box; ii) between F124 & F169; between transom and F169.

lohwaikin........looking at your picture above,,I'd suggest that you may want another stringer to support the cockpit floor just aft of the keel area,,,almost 2' span without support will have a lot of flex even if you're glassing both sides of the plywood,,,,,,,,and you'll have 3 people's weight there at times!

... or reinforce the sole from above.....you can glass in your benson/foot stop, if it lands somewhere near the middle of the cockpit floor's span.

yeah,,the behnson's would kinda help,,but not nearly as support from below....in all the time I've spent doing boatwork,I'd suggest if there's much flex,,something is breaking-down over time,not so much with epoxy but certainly with wood panels.

I have both the extra stingers which were built like I-beams and the bensons glassed on top. For the most part, the floor is pretty stiff, but I can still feel some flex in bare feet. I agree with Micah, you don't want a large span like that that is not well supported.

The boat handles really well, but I have a bunch of things I need to attend to for future sails. In addition to the many enhancements that I knew that I wanted to add, after the first sail I definitely want to double-up on the jib sheet and probably the main halyard.

I'll try the spinnaker tomorrow.
