Waterline

Postby ryderp » Tue May 29, 2012 5:14 pm

I'm thinking about painting a stripe a couple of inches above the waterline. I'm not exactly sure where that is however. In photos that I've seen, it looks like it is just about from the chine point on the bow to the chine on the stern, although some boats look like they float "nose up" a bit. Any suggestions?

Phil

P.S. I may just paint the whole thing white and not worry about it.

This has been suggested elsewhere, but I think the concept of "waterline" is so subjective (or dynamic) on these boats that it might not be worth screwing with. Maybe sitting on a mooring with sails and aux stowed in the exact same place every time, no crew aboard. But unless it's completely unlike any other 18 footer I've been on, I think waterline is going to be a (constantly) moving target.

I dunno...

I think I agree completely with admin.

sitting in dirty water will give a bathtub ring you could mark... and it looks cool on the trailer.

But white is sooooo boring. But I'll take sailing and white over being painted any day.

I thought orange was fast. Or is that only on foils?
