Marko, the open-ended side decks started life as a styling preference I think but also serves the practical purpose of making the spinnaker block fastenings accessible without an extra pair of hatches an source of leaks). The downside is a slight loss of reserve buoyancy in a knock-down condition, but I suspect that 'slight' is not significant. It looks good! :-)
