Greetings from Georgia USA

Postby Thomas » Sun Feb 25, 2018 7:29 pm

Hi everyone
Just bought a set of plans and hoping to get started to build me an I550 .
Question ? What not to do in the beginning ?
What are the cons of the boat , in sailing performance ?
Any help to a newbie would be appreciated .
Thanks Thomas

Welcome, neighbor.
You need five posts before you can PM.

Hi Thomas and welcome to the Forum. Thanks for joining us!

You may get a kick out of this thread:

With over 5400 posts on this forum, it's sometimes difficult to find the particular thread, or response within a thread, that pertains to a question you might have. But: feel free to start a new thread!

Unlike Sailing Anarchy, you won't have a dozen blowhards coming back at you giving you grief for not doing a search. We have tons of bandwidth and we don't care about duplicate threads. Heck, most of us have already forgotten half of what we once knew!

So yeah, post away and send in a picture or two just to keep us apprised of where your project stands. Personally, I really miss the building process, it was fun and very rewarding....I think my neighbors don't miss the 600 square foot hoop house and occasional glimpses of some guy in a tyvek suit and organic respirator though....

Make a start on foils, which take a lot of time and will be a bore if left to the end. Finished foils are also required for keel and rudder cassettes. Think about sourcing spars early to spread out the cash flow. Spars an sails can hurt a lot if bought at the same time. The hull is the cheap bit .....
