Jon, I think you should go to 1/4" rod rigging just to make sure you have enough weight aloft to turtle the boat when she goes all wrong.

The first 5 c-tech rigs all had the t-ball plates for the forestay installed for 5/32" size wire. Knowing how they are installed now, I would do it myself. But back in the day, this was all new territory for me. For the shrouds we had to install the 1/8" sized plates after gluing the rig together so that's when I figured out how it's done. (technically they are metric 4mm and 3mm but 5/32" and 1/8" t-balls work fine).
