I went with max soft chine. I found that my longest longboard (60") worked well for most of the chine. To get a fair radius, work it with the board fore and aft, but using diagonal strokes.

"The longboard doesn't lie". Sometimes it's hard to see what it's telling you, though!

I used a kind of grab rail for that longboard, so I could grab it anywhere but still have the pressure applied near the ends. This made it heavier, and made me tired noticeably quicker. But that was the middle of summer...

This is white 2000e on here but the lighting makes it look silver. I am now thinking silver (with orange foils of course!) but Perfection doesn't come in silver. Any ideas on a 2-part PolyU paint that comes in SILVER? Or a metalflake additive I could dump in platinum colored Perfection?

Perfection says the same thing - it's because of the need for a respirator, and there's a little learning curve on choosing the right thinner/quantity for your conditions. For roll and tip, use the slow stuff, at a larger dose than they recommend, and it'll be fine if you keep the dust and (most of) the bugs off it.

Awlcraft applies about the same as Perfection, but has the benefit of being buffable (I'm told, I've never played with it myself). AwlGRIP is practically identical to Perfection.

Hull 437 starting on top deck primer last night.
I had one coat of neat epoxy after glassing, and spent 3 weeks sanding off the scraper marks...

I am using Hempel 45551 epoxy light primer (it says good for above and under waterline application).
It's about 3 times cheaper than InterProtect primer, at S$20/liter.
The remaining areas I will roller over by this week, then construct a pair of wooden beams to support the inverted hull.
The hull bottom has no work done on it yet.
This time round I'll use Nylon fabric as peel-ply during glassing....

wow you have really made some progress. I feel like I'm back in the Club Sisyphus brigade (one step forward, two steps back). Took the day off work because of the weather. It got up into the high 60's today and with the dark tarps draped over the build shed, it was almost 80 inside. I used 105/205/410 to fill some of the dings I noticed after my 2nd coat of interlux...waited 2 hours and then washed it off and began sanding...which resulted in a LOT of interlux coming off.

So, again with the interlux....hope we have a warm winter.

Unfortunately, a lot of expensive paint ends up as sanding dust in this process. I remember thinking about how many dollars were on the floor. On the other hand, painting really motivated me to get the boat done.

Hey, I meant to post this earlier, but this was what I found to be a huge help with doing large areas of cloth.

- wet out the boat (receiver) surface as per normal
- put cloth on
- wet out the cloth pretty much as per normal, but add 5% MEK to the resin mix. This completely eliminated any pesky areas that
did not want to wet out completely for some unknown (to me) reason.

some are going to argue that by diluting the resin mix, it is going to weaken the layup, but I did an unscientific torture test on 2 pieces of scrap and
found no discernible difference in delamination.

Doesn't weaken the layup, just makes it slightly more permeable. Introducing a volatile solvent means evaporation, and the evaporation process requires pathways through the resin to the atmosphere, which then become available pathways for moisture traveling the other way. If you just MEK'd the glassing coat, and left the inner and subsequent coats un-tainted, then it's probably a moot point. The chemists hate hearing about folks adding solvents, but people that do lots of boat work still do it all the time. Who to listen to- the guys with the pocket protectors or the guys with 10 colors of gelcoat under their fingernails?

Re: used sails- I grabbed a Hobie 16 main, and a Star jib for mucking about the lake with family or whatever. Both fit pretty well.

Hard to get anything done today, had to put in some "wife time'. She's happy again, so tomorrow I'll be taping seams inside to give the deck sides to cabin top some extra strength, and finishing taping the cabin top seams.

Hull 437 from Singapore currently on 2nd coat of primer for hull bottom.
Work and family matters slightly dampened my expected pace.
Anyway, start of April 2013 marks the one year anniversary of this project.
