I dont blame you for going to wire, I'd do it too, but the guy who is rigging my boat is a friend I race with a lot and he's recently started his own rigging biz. He wants to do the boat as high tech (but also cheaply) as possible, as a bit of a show-case with advertising, and there will be no shackles on the boat. Soft everything. Soft tiller!!!

OK< maybe not soft tiller...that's why they invented Viagra, I reckon.

Shackles? What are those? Most if not all of my blocks are all lashed on. Mostly used ti-lites (I know, so 2009 but they still rock).

FYI, there is a trick to locking the core of that spyder line (see Chad's pictures, the orange lashing line) inside the cover so it doesn't fuzzy out like it likes to do. You expose the core and trim it to length first. Then pull the cover over and cut it off with a hot knife just past the end of the core and pinch the cover closed as it cools. Voila, no spectra core hanging out looking ugly. Works with any covered spectra core line pretty well. Larger lines live better with a wipping added as well.

NEW QUESTION: (this probably exists somewhere on one of the forums, but...) what brand/part did you guys use as the inboard boom end (female) gooseneck pin (male) receiver? I see that Selden makes some but they are recommended for alum masts. Did you have to fabricate something? I know Kevin fabricated the outboard end fitting. Did you guys use the gooseneck that C-Tech supplied? It looks like Jeff did, at least. Here is a foto of mine.

I happen to have a pic of Brandt's boom, before delivering it to him -sorry, still in the plastic. He ordered his with the little receiver tube already installed. I assume you all did in your earlier group order?

I fabbed my own tube, and I'm using the same gooseneck you have. Wrapped a slightly smaller wood dowel in plastic, then some glass and then carbon, heat shrink tape, cured, drilled out the wood (and a little glass), cut to length, glued into boom and added some fillets and carbon patches to tie it all together.

Tim I used hardware that C-Tech sent with the spars. No problems so far.

There was a moulded in spot for the gooseneck hardware in the boom. I set it in with some G-Flex.

Check the other end of your boom. The receiver should already be there. All 5 rigs on the first order came with the gooseneck installed and the receiver already in the boom. Steps to go... Mount a thru deck on the outboard end for the outhaul. Figure out your outhaul purchase and cleat setup. Lash on your mainsheet blocks. Done.

Jon, have you had any bending of that bolt through the gooseneck. I did and replaced the bolt with a piece of solid 1/4" SS rod. I think my issue was using a bow nut on the end of the bolt for a turning block for the outhaul tail. Maybe I cranked on it when I shouldn't have. That turning block will just be lashed around the mast going forward. Stronger and lighter

So far I haven't had any problems with the bolt or setup. I also am also using the bolt to secure the outhaul. I will watch out for that, thanks!

all that regatta talk made me forget why I logged in in the first place. Can you C-Techers tell me what the attachment point is for the headstay, up top? Is it another T-ball fitting? Or does it pin up there? Cannot remember and Merit25 the rigster needs to know! And also: what size? (see guide below)

I used the 1/8" version, and the matching plate in the mast.

Are your plates already installed? -that will determine what fits...
If THAT's the case, I can measure what a plate for the 1/8"er is, and you can determine if yours matches.

-or wait until Kevin digs out his records and tells ya...

thanks Chad....I was hoping to avoid pulling out the whole package and unwrapping the nifty storage configuration I had devised but since it's spring (in some sense...33 F on the front porch this a.m.) I guess I'll yank that puppy out and see whats up! Good to know it's a Tball though....'preciate it!

I have a vague memory of the forestay being sized bigger than the sides in the original specs, so that would be 5/32" if my mammary isn't wrong. Definitely check with K or the rig itself first.

Edit: here's the mast page at CTech, showing 4mm for the forestay (w/ 2 rivets t&b), verse the 3mm jobbies elsewhere.

My forestay is 5/32" wire with a T-ball swedged on. The side stays are 1/4" if that helps.

Jon, I think you should go to 1/4" rod rigging just to make sure you have enough weight aloft to turtle the boat when she goes all wrong.

The first 5 c-tech rigs all had the t-ball plates for the forestay installed for 5/32" size wire. Knowing how they are installed now, I would do it myself. But back in the day, this was all new territory for me. For the shrouds we had to install the 1/8" sized plates after gluing the rig together so that's when I figured out how it's done. (technically they are metric 4mm and 3mm but 5/32" and 1/8" t-balls work fine).

First 5 rigs are on Twist (jon painted it white), Fringe (ron sold to Erwan [anakin]), Alchemy (Jeff), PipeDream(me), and To Be Determined (Tim F needs to name his boat).

TF, just talked to NER again, they're going to try and get 150' of the good stuff in 3mm. No name or price for it yet. And they're also not releasing any tensile strength numbers for it either. I would assume it'll be very similar to Dux, no reason for it not to be.

Anyway, they have made some in 3mm and 4mm, I'll let you know what they say.
