North sailmaker here in Turkey is quoting me for a 13.36 sqm main (143 square feet) and 6.68 sqm jib (71,91 square feet).
Does that seem reasonnable, too big, too small ?
tks

Here's two other data points to compare to:
an old Quantum sail quote I lifted from Matt's forum back in 2009 showed a pinhead main with 130.9 s.f. (12.2m2) and a jib of 86.2 s.f. (8m2).
the sailmaker I'm using has proposed a main of 212.6 s.f. (19.94m2) and a jib of 90.2 s.f. (8.38m2). I'm in a light air in summer location, so I asked him to be generous...

holy macaroni ! talk about being generous !!!
İ had North boosted their first offer and they came up with 14,37 sqm main (154.6 sqf) and 7,57 sqm jib (81.49). That is really close to what Kevin has or had on his boat 14,8 sqm Main (160 sqf) and 7,61 sqm Jib (82 sqf).
That is good enough for me and that is what İ will settle with. İ tried to attach drawings but did not succeed.

Now that is one "Square" main sail. And people called me aggressive in the past. My sails are storm/stay sails compared to Chad's plan expanses of sail cloth. Interesting that you only have 5 full battens ??? My sail maker was planning on 6 full battens for the 180ish "mad max" main that we toned down for our current main which has 5.
Good luck with those sails Jerome. Sounds like you are super close to going for a sail. Remember your camera!!!

I think the straighter leech lets the sailmaker get away with less battens. I think Ron's main had some partial battens, short ones, due to his hollow leech? -below the "gaff", that is.
Edit: nope, I should know better than to go on memory. Checked a pic of his in the current main traveller thread, and he has just three full battens below the gaff. The partials musta been on some other boat. Yeah, that's it...

Ron's "hollow leach" is based on an idea from Shazza's sailmaker if I have the connection right. The idea is that because the leach isn't a constant curve like it is on my main sail, that the head can and will fall off earlier in a large puff and then have more ability to fall off. In light to super light conditions I'm not sure there was much difference between the two and his sail area is about the same as mine although it doesn't look like it in the photos.
The m20 main on carbon offset has a mix of partial and full battens. Maybe that's the one you were thinking about.
Cheers, K.
