mast

Postby Marino » Mon May 14, 2012 4:07 pm

I have an Albacore mast that is roughly 22 feet long. Would put on an extension piece on to get the proper length needed.
Would the mast be suitable for the i550?

I'd say it's too small.

For an Albacore, Proctor specs their D section, which is .97kg/m (.66#/ft.), and 73mm X 57mm (2.9" X 2.4").

Comparing to Dwyer's DM4, which is as small as I've seen anybody consider using, it's about 40% lighter per foot.

Also, an Albacore at 5' of beam and with two crew at 180 each has a RM of around 450 ft-lbs, where an i550 with 180 pounds in the keel at 15 degrees heel, plus three crew sitting on the rail with the 8' beam has an RM of around 2345 ft-lbs. Big difference!

Pretty much agree with Previous post by Chad. Kenyon lists a section which is pretty small. about DM 284 size.

Thanks for the answers. Will disregard the Albacore mast.
