For Sale - Lunatic Fringe - Sold

Postby Ron Bowman » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:59 pm

Boat, motor, trailer, sails. Carbon two spreader mast, carbon boom, Harken fittings, 2 hp Johnson outboard motor, full sized step fender trailer, one set of almost new black technora upwind sails including a square top main, two spinnakers, and one set of white practice sails. This boat is ready to sail today. Great chance to get into an i550 for a great price. $7,000.00. That's $5,000 and 1,000 hours of labor less than cost! http://www.iceboxi550.blogspot.com/ Contact Ron Bowman – bowman at northwinds dot net. Alternate email address: eagle41428 at yahoo dot com

Wow, end of an era.
Congrats, Ron, but it is not without a significant degree of sadness, as you were one of the major contributors to both the building knowledge database and my own personal level of sanity in a LOT of ways!

Take care and hope to see The Fringe on the water one day. --TF

Yes, LF headed to the Chicago area last night and might be there by now. A nice young couple bought it. I'll leave it to them to introduce themselves. Best regards to you all.

Hello,

My name is Erwan Kerebel, I just bought Ron's boat this week-end. So far, the boat is in a garage but I am really excited about sailing it in May. I live less than a mile away from Kevin in Evanston, IL so hopefully, we should be able to sail together.

You're half correct...
I am french but I relocated in Chicago with my family 3 years ago.
I used to sail quite a lot in France (J-24, J-39, Melges 24, Cruising) and I had also built a small 14' dinghy (stitch and glue, my own plans). Left the boat in France and not so much time to build a boat anymore so I bought Ron's boat. Anyway, I am glad to be part of the community!

Can't tell you how happy we are to have you. With a critical mass coalescing around Chicago, I am starting to smell a North American Championship in 2014...anyone have a yacht club?

And can you get "Alchemy" to settle in, locally?

Welcome indeed. Looking forward to sailing this summer at Montrose Harbor on Lake Michigan. Hopefully we can convert a lightning or rhodes sailor or two to the i550 fold.

We will wait on the yacht club part of the equation for a bit. I do need to follow up with Ron about getting the "Epoxy Cup" back.

Cheers, Kevin.
