Just wanted to let you all know I'm still filleting and taping, a job that seems to go on forever! I can't wait to get to the sanding and fairing part, that must feel like a never-ending hell.
I'm starting to see a boat coming out of all this though, and today I finally felt confident enough to actually get inside it to work!
I've been trying on different names to see how they fit. I want something along the lines of ttb and shazza, one of my friends suggested Tijuana Momma, but I think it's too long

Tijuana Momma is the name of a brand of very hot chorizo, a type of sausage they sell here. Of course, I'd change the Logo to suit the boat!!! ;)

Still pre-glass?

I see the outline of a stick figure running on the left side...

What I don't see in the fairing compound is a birthday cake. And I know Tim really deserves a nice piece of cake after all that sanding.

Happy Birthday Tim!

Thanks, man....wish I could say I'm excited about it. Officially WAY over-the-hill, now.

Chad, no that is not pre-glass, it is after-glass and well into the Laying On of the Pink and the Getting To Be One with Your Longboard phases. But I am pretty psyched about the way things are looking and you may be on to something with that stick figure thing, maybe like Samba Pa Ti...hmmm http://www.sambapati.org/
....Rocky, not so much with the beer gut but, hey, that gives me some ideas, too.

Ok, I've just about got all my stringers and cockpit supptorts in, had to wait for more money for glass tape and epoxy. Thank God you guys all posted plenty of pictures, because this area is a little vague in the instructions. (lol) I can't wait to get this thing in the water and start racing!

Along those lines, Rocky, I was crawling on my boat's bottom this past weekend, finishing up glassing the bottom and I was a little surprised at how much flex there is, still, in that huge flat area aft of frame...uh...the last one before the transom (dont have the drawing in front of me). I ran some stringers there (3, indicated by arrows) but I am not sure it was enough, so if you still have time, make sure this area gets a lot of attention. I like what the newer boats are doing with supports that tie the cockpit sole into the bottom with weight-saving cut-outs in them.

hard to believe that your I beams still allow flex there. I ran 2 like the newer boats from the cockpit sole to the bottom, but maybe I should run a couple more to be sure. At one point I was looking at glassing over a 1x1 1/2 piece of foam. The strength comes from the upside down "U" shape the glass takes as it hardens. I think I'll run a few of them back there.......
Damn! I thought I was almost done!!!!!LOL

Done is a 4 letter word!!. Keep that in mind. :-)

A 3/4" foam fillet strip that is glassed over will be much stiffer than a strip of 1/4" ply on it's side. If you could see the inside of my boat while you flex it you would see the tops of the ply flex sideways as the panel is flexed inward. Kind of cool to see the cause and effect of the forces the boat sees. A strip with a radius on the top will create that U shape which will create 2 vertical sides farther apart and then the tops are tided together so the forces go against each other. The 1/4" ply isn't thick enough to do this. At least that's what makes sense to me.

I used some full height stringers, and the boat is rock solid at those points- I can feel exactly where they are as I crawl around on the upside down boat. My intermediate stringers were 1/2" x 1 1/4" strips of wood, fully glassed, and they aren't quite as stiff as I would like. I'd use 1/2" x 2" if I built again.

I think the ply strip stringers will work lots better if you add a cap to them. I did this up forward between f53 & 89, with a strip of 1/2" x 3/4" wood slightly rabbeted over a 4" strip of ply, and that part of the bottom is very stiff, despite being in the part of the hull where the bottom panels are flat so there's no natural stiffness from the curvature.

I used full height stringers as they are the same weight as two smaller ones and provide much more support not only for the floor and hull but also it ties toe two together and reduces flex in the boat from bow to stern. Also the front two angle in so they land on the back of the Keel box adding support there.
