Standing rigging

Postby ryderp » Wed Aug 01, 2012 6:52 pm

What have people used for a bow stem fitting? I bought one of these from Racelite: http://www.racelitehardware.com/rl387stfi.html , but it seems pretty light weight.

I'm hoping to have the mast standing straight up this coming weekend, however I'm still waiting on a few parts to come in.

Looks fine to me.

The 1/4" holes for the jib tack might be a little snug, you'll probably want a 3/16"ø shackle.
The 3/8" hole for the forestay should theoretically match your forestay turnbuckle's pin size (probably 1/4"), but at the loads this boat sees I don't think it will be a problem.

That's the bow fitting that Jeff and I both are using.

I have a 5/32" forestay so that translates to a 5/16" pin. To avoid point loading the 3/8" forward hole I drilled out the 5/16" toggle to 3/8" and used a 3/8" SS pin. You could also go with a bushing if you can find one with the right inner and outer diameters. Easy to do if you are already paying shipping from mcmaster for other parts.

I decided to move back one hole for my new adjustable forestay on a 1/4" pin. Load wise there is zero issue with a 1/4" ss pin and shackle on a i550 for the forestay. And with a jib cunningham the bottom snap shackle becomes a fairlead more than a tack fitting for the jib.

Cheers, Kevin.
