Last night I finally cut the slot for the keel in the bottom of the boat. Now it's a sailboat! just a few steps away from glassing the bottom, then more fairing!

That's an exciting time! I feel particularly indebted to Chad for the solution he drew to insure the bottom be leakproof with regard to the sleeve/slot/ply hull bottom. I have a lot of confidence in this build area and I would have ZERO if I had just tried to figger it out myself.

Wondered where that discussion went, found it in the "Crack!!" thread.

Some day, we need to comb through these forums and organize all the little nuggets we've learned from each other. I'll say that this forum has probably surpassed the old one for the quantity and quality of useful content now. Pretty cool!

My solution was no where near as elegant as yours but I think (hope) it'll work ok.

Just in case you thought Singapore has quit.....

The lead bulb was poured on Wednesday by a battery recycling factory on the island, at SGD 4.20/kg excluding tax.
I'm posting at this hour (4 am Singapore time!) because I've spent the night (or morning) fixing the rudder cassette that was molded from the keel foil.....
Remaining milestones:
1) hinging the rudder cassette to transom
2) marrying the bulb to keel
3) finishing off the wooden mast
4) attaching spreaders and mast fittings
5) finishing off the retractable prod
6) do something about the roll of 6oz Dacron hiding in the storeroom for more than a year...

OK, finally a proper sized photo. Achieving to this point in the build does energize me. I see a dim light at the end of the tunnel. I'm working parallel projects too (the keel bulb and rudder). TF, I do hope to be in the water this year but for now I'm enjoying the journey. I do have several commitments, other than Mist, this spring. I think next spring is realistic. I can hope for faster than that:) Thanks for the offer on St Mary's. I'll look up that location. Currently, I can't recall where that is. I should know I sailed the whole Ches Bay a few years ago. -Tim K

I'm figuring for mould purposes to build the plug I will need more stations. Will make for a truer hull.

The pdx guys came up with numbers for a cradle every 12", and that info is in the digital plan.

Or, for a plug you can just use lots of full length, fair stringers...

micah202, though the boat looks really good black I won't be keeping it this color. From what I understand, the fairing compound that I used West 410 microlight cannot hold up to high temperatures. The bright sun and high temps experienced in Virginia are surely enough to overdo the microlight's capabilities. I applied three coats of epoxy with graphite powder to seal the fairing compound and help hide the pencil marks form the fairing process. I sure wish I had the dough for one of them C-tech rigs and carbon sails though. They're a little too high for me.
