I'd go a tad smaller, and maybe more elliptical rather than purely square, so that two (smaller, thinner) battens support the peak instead of a single, fat "gaff" batten.

...not a bad plan mister...it was quite a surprise to see such a seasoned sailor not know about stretching-the-bones!! ....I guess as a dinghy sailor,,that's one thing that attracted me to i550's.....I couldn't imagine for one second the idea of sailing a boat this size inside a set of lifelines :o :D

The boats I have owned and sailed J22/U20 here in Colorado are all lifeline boats (required for racing) so this is a new one for me, I wonder how much fun it will be when it starts honking 20+ and we get our typical 60+ degree wind shifts, I guess waterproof hiking shorts

....ahh the straps were an inspiration of John Bertrand,,'84 US finn rep....definitely the most comfortable hiking straps on the planet......this version is pool-noodles slipped down a dacron sock--no edges or hard spots,,,and it's easy to slip feet under.

...there's a spectra safety-line that goes down the centre,,but it doesn't get loaded.

....hmmm,,that's 'Cheech',,,"Chong's on the other corner. I rely on Voodoopower......shorepower not necessary

...that's a good view of my mainsheet & bridle system.....it's sounding like Mark's another convert! ;)
.......if I was to make one improvement,,it'd be to add a cleat to the bridle itself so I could adjust the 'centre-ability' of the traveller more easily--a bit more 'V' in light winds for more centering.
