Mist trailered 300 miles south to share Easter with Gamecock daughter in Columbia SC. We met up with Big Dog for a beautiful sail on Lake Murray.

Yup! It did take me 6 1/2 hours on March 30th. There was a lot of rain for the first half of the trip. I did mis quote the distance in my first post, actually it was 385 miles. My return trip, Easter, was surprisingly smoother, 5 hours 45 min.

I really enjoyed the trip and it went smoothly. I’m looking forward to the trip to north Lake Huron in June. I will be driving through northern Ohio and Pennsylvania between July 1st and 4th if anyone wants to meet up for a sail or chat.

I think I am doing Screwpile on OPB and that'll shoot my sailing goodwill for July. This weather is miserable and I've gotten exactly NOTHING done on my boat, which makes SPLC a bit of a reach.

Can't wait to retire....

Tim, a question .....

Now that you have more experience with Mist are you making progress on using Dyneema shrouds? Or still frustrated with creep and loss of tension? I have a selfish interest, since I will need to make a rigging decision this year. I was going to use Dyneema, but your experience raised doubts.

I think we should start a whole new thread on dyneema. But, here are a few thoughts. All I all, I’m overcoming the issues of dyneema shrouds. The setup and learning curve can present hurdles at times. My current setup works satisfactorily, but I haven’t optimized it all the way yet. I feel the cost of dyneema is worth it, though I haven’t researched it all. There are two types of dyneema; prestretched/heat set and the non prestreched/heat set. Using the prestreched/heat set limits some aggravation with creep for the relatively low loads the i550 shrouds put on the capacity of 6 mm dyneema. Though, you will have some creep in the beginning as it’s tough to tie all the knots as tight as need be. I’ll try to organize some more thoughts on dyneema and start a separate thread soon.

Had a great sail on Lake Ontario today. My daughters and I met up with Marino for beautiful sail wit Toronto in the background. I owe great ‘Thank you!’ To Marino and Mimico Cruising Club for arranging and allowing my to stow Mist while visited downtown Toronto for a couple of days. My sail of lake Huron’s North Channel is put on hold for awhile.

I'm sorry, Warren, I missed your question somehow. I'm happy with the Dyneema shrouds. I think after the first few sails there was some creep, but my rigger allowed for a lot of take-up. Still, I plan to (soon I hope) remove the caps from the spreader bracket -- it's threaded thru -- and get Trevor to take up a few inches on them.

They are incredibly light and I think that's a bonus. If I had to do it again? Yep, I'd stick with plastic over wire.
