Awful tempting.

This is the system that necessitates a luff wire in the jib though, right? (essentially serving as a forestay?) Bit of an issue on a non keel-stepped mast?

Thanks Nortorious, I finally got home and decided to open (now opened package) and read the instructions. Admin was correct on the luff wire being a part of the furling with this system. The rest you explained very well in your post. I began the build thinking about having a furling system for the jib but changed, and now all I will have is a take down line. :o I don't see a problem with any type of mast step, some may be easier then others. All require a fore stay, some rolled others not. I am looking for a new home for this system.

I would have thought that for an i550 the harken under deck would be a better option?

I think the issue with the under deck furlers is that they'd reduce J by a significant factor, 6-8 inches?

how would a furler effect any type of bowsprit? under deck is going to take up room. might get a bit cramped in the bow.

Found a new home for the furler, it is going to a builder in South Carolina. Already on the way.
